Interpersonal relationships, inner turmoil, chemistry. Those are words that are anathema to the stats crowd, generally speaking, and they're not things that (usually) have an enormous impact on the outcome of games.
Still, I'm a sucker for a good story about teammates, and this one from the mothership certainly qualifies. It appears that rookie cornerbacks Robert Alford and Desmond Trufant are growing close on and off the field. That's cool in its own right, but it has implications beyond that, implications for this Falcons team going forward.
Daniel Cox writes up what we're all hoping to see:
It remains to be seen how the close bond between Trufant and Alford will materialize on the field, but they've already established a competitive spirit that motivates and encourages each other. Ideally Falcons nation would love to see a scenario where Trufant and Alford make up a tandem of the best corners on the field, while being best friends off of it, but that is a little down the line
Look, the benefits of this could well be limited from our perspective, but you would like to see your future top two cornerbacks communicating well and working together, so this encourages me.
What do you think of Alford and Trufant heading into Year One?
