Falcons Interested in Linebacker Karlos Dansby?

Linebacker Karlos Dansby visited his former team, the Arizona Cardinals, on Wednesday, but indicated the Falcons have shown interest as well.

Free agent linebacker Karlos Dansby told Arizona Sports 620's John Gambadoro that the Falcons are one of several teams interested in potentially signing him. The Falcons were thin at the linebacker position last season, an issue that was highlighted by Sean Weatherspoon's ankle injury that sidelined him for three games.

Dansby has been courted by several teams in free agency, and visited the Cincinnati Bengals and the Buffalo Bills in addition to the Cardinals. Dansby has indicated that the Jets and the Texans have also shown interest in adding him to their respective rosters. It's assumed that the reason he has yet to land with a team is that teams don't necessarily see him as a solid starter at age 31, but Dansby had 101 solo tackles and 33 assists last year, his career-best.

Dansby is a versatile player, able to play outside or inside linebacker, which gives him the potential to easily fit into a Mike Nolan scheme. The Falcons did bring in linebacker Brian Banks, and have a handful of undrafted free agents who will try to make the roster, but acquiring a player like Dansby would immediately make the Falcons defense more effective.
