2013 NFL Combine Report: Tyler Eifert Blowing Away The Tight End Field

He'll likely be the first tight end off the board.

Jonathan Daniel

The Combine is a great place to improve your draft stock. Tyler Eifert has taken that annual lesson to heart.

Eifert came in to the draft close to Zach Ertz and Gavin Escobar. It was clear that quality workouts would help separate the three, and it didn't take long for the Notre Dame product to take off.

He was helped by Ertz's short arms and Escobar's slowish 40 times, but Eifert has done borderline workout warrior work thus far. He ran a 4.60 40 yard dash, had a 35.5 inch vertical jump, 9'11" broad jump and 22 reps on the bench. The only guy who has been close to him has been Rice tight end Vance McDonald, who showed impressive strength.

Eifert is setting himself up to be drafted in the first round, and even if the Falcons are interested in taking him with the 30th pick, they may not get the chance. Teams will see his combination of athleticism and production at the college level and figure they can get an excellent weapon.

Your thoughts on Eifert and the Falcons drafting a tight end?
