Mocking The Draft Sees Sam Montgomery To Falcons

Mocking the Draft's Dan Kadar did a live chat yesterday, and I couldn't pass up the chance to ask him which pass rusher he thought the Falcons were likeliest to chase. His answer may or may not surprise you.

I've pasted our discussion below. Forgive the wonky formatting with the first couple, but you should get the idea. Weigh in on Dan's comments!

If the Falcons want to draft a 4-3 defensive end who can rush the passer

Who would you recommend in this draft? They’ve been trying to scratch that itch for years.

I’ve been associating Sam Montgomery with the Falcons for about a month. Given where he’ll be drafted and his skill, that will probably stick up until the draft starts. Other guys to think about are Datone Jones of UCLA and Alex Okafor of Texas. I like them in that order.

Montgomery and Jones are both players who should be better pass rushers in the NFL than they were in college.

I know there are some concerns about Montgomery’s work ethic among fans. Do you think that’s overblown?

I do. That’s pretty much based on a note the LSU strength coach left about Montgomery and others skipping workouts. The strength coach later praised Montgomery, but no one pays attention to that part of it.

I specifically went back and watched a lot of Montgomery’s snaps to see if he’s taking plays off. I just don’t see it.
