A Potential Return Of The Prodigal Son: Knowshon Moreno

A free agent-to-be, Moreno might get a look from his hometown team.

The Denver Broncos are rumored to be moving on from Knowshon Moreno. The question I want to ask now is not a question I would not have asked even a year ago. The question is, do the Falcons want Moreno?

The answer is probably still no, but it's not the slam dunk it once was. The pieces fit in more than one way, if this report that the Broncos are releasing Moreno proves to be true.

Moreno is only 25 years old. He's a quick runner with good burst when he's healthy, he has caught 97 passes in four seasons and he doesn't fumble often. No one's going to tell you that Moreno is an elite back—and less than a waste of a first round pick, at this point in his career—but he's still a useful player. Considering he could come cheap and the Falcons are looking for a complementary piece, he might be a good fit.

On the flip side, Moreno averaged only 3.8 yards per carry as a rusher last year. He's not exactly durable. He couldn't seize a ton of carries until injury cleared the way for him, despite a relatively weak crop of rushers behind Willis McGahee. He's not a power back, and the Falcons lack a power back. Even if he comes cheap, Moreno's Georgia roots may not be enough to overcome the holes in his game.

I think the Falcons will take a look, but I don't think they'll sign Moreno.
