Falcons Off the Field: Roddy White

It's a tough season for the Falcons, but the players haven't let that interfere with their high standards of giving back to the community. Roddy White is no exception.

The nice thing for players about a Thursday night game is that it gives them a mini-bye week afterward, with a longer timeframe to prepare for their next opponent. All-Pro receiver Roddy White used that downtime to host a football camp for kids.

White's camp was held at Centennial High School in Roswell, Georgia. The camp, geared toward children in grades 1-8, featured football instruction on fundamentals, skill contests and games, and instructional talks from Roddy. Local high school and college coaches assisted in the fundamentals instruction.

In addition, White partnered with Kroger and Proctor & Gamble to sponsor a toy drive for children in need through this football camp. More than 100 underprivileged children will receive a gift thanks to the generosity of White and the camp's sponsors.

In addition to hosting several instructional football camps for children throughout the year, Roddy White is very active in serving the community through the Roddy White Keep the Faith Foundation. RWKTF Foundation provides several programs to help those in need. The Playmaker program encourages youth participation in sports, and football camps fall under this umbrella. White also provides football equipment to youth organizations in need through this program.

The Second Down program is a mentoring program, pairing local college students with middle school students to provide leadership, guidance and friendship. Mentors spend time with the middle school students individually, and also come together for group activities.

Roddy's Rockstars is a program that provides scholarship opportunities to students in need. The program will provide students with scholarships to a four year college or university, a two year associate's degree program, a trade or technical school, or a school of the arts, depending on the recipient's preference.

Roddy White Keep the Faith foundation also manages several outreach initiatives to benefit underprivileged children and families in the greater Atlanta metro area, and White's hometown of Charleston, South Carolina. Prior to the start of each school year, White coordinates a school supply giveaway. RWKTF Foundation's Fall Festival features a Thanksgiving basket giveaway, and White's annual Holiday Drive includes a Christmas toy giveaway.

Roddy White is another example of a Falcons player living up to the high expectations for community service within the Falcons organization. You can learn more about White's foundation and charitable endeavors by visiting the Roddy White Keep the Faith Foundation website.
