Tony Gonzalez Injury: Gonzo's Questionable, Malliciah Goodman's Out Sunday

Tony Gonzalez will be a gametime decision, but defensive end Malliciah Goodman will be out Sunday against the Buccaneers.

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

The Atlanta Falcons may be rolling into the Buccaneers' stupid pirate ship stadium down Tony Gonzalez. Emphasis on may.

Gonzalez will be listed as questionable for the game, and it's likely to be a gametime decision. He finally practiced on a limited basis on Friday, and if he just can't go on his injured toe, then Levine Toilolo and Chase Coffman are going to split the snaps. Toilolo's breakout week may be here. Emphasis on may.

The good news? Harry Douglas practiced fully and will likely be active against the Bucs, giving the Falcons two bonafide receivers and whatever Drew Davis and Darius Johnson are on a week-to-week basis. That'll help Matt Ryan, especially because Douglas torched their non-Revis cornerbacks a few weeks back.

The bad news? Malliciah Goodman is out. Goodman has been slowly growing as a player, but he was one of the team's better run defenders up front over the course of the season and the rotation is now diminished. The only upside is that the Falcons are facing Brian Leonard and Bobby Rainey, not Doug Martin and Mike James.

Also, Akeem Dent is moving to the bench. Paul Worrilow will take over as the starting middle linebacker, and if he plays well, it's a job he's likely to keep. Sean Weatherspoon is back in action Sunday.
