Post Falcons-Bucs Injury Update: [Spoiler Alert] We're Still Banged Up

Fact: Jack was nimble, Jack was quick, but Jack still couldn't burn Desmond Trufant.

It's funny how commonplace injuries are for Falcons fans this year. We pretty much expect 2-3 injuries in any given game. And unfortunately, the Falcons near loss to the worst team in the NFL victory over the Buccaneers was no exception.

Our banged up linebacker corps continues to take its figurative licks. Stephen Nicholas left the game in the first quarter. He battled a thigh injury back in September, and this could very well be some more of the same. To that effect, Akeem Dent re-injured his ankle. Ironically Nicholas and Dent are being outplayed by Paul Worrilow and Joplo Bartu. So while our depth isn't what we'd like it to be, we're still arguably able to field our best players.

The scariest injury today was Desmond Trufant's. He was on the turf a little too long for comfort, and while he eventually walked off the field sans assistance, the thought of of a Robert McClain/Dominique Franks combination manning the field opposite Asante Samuel is a little unnerving. Luckily Trufant told reporters he just "cramped up" a bit, and reports from the locker room had him walking around like nothing ever happened.

At this point, the injury bug is still hanging around. Steven Jackson apparently took a step backwards last week, thus his return isn't imminent. Roddy White likely benefited from 2 weeks off, but I think the coaching staff will probably take another week to get him as close to 100 percent as possible, if necessary. Sam Baker can never come back and that'd suit me just fine is still working his way back, with his role on the team dubious at best. Sean Weatherspoon is slowly but surely getting himself back into playing shape. In short, we're still banged up.
