NFC Championship Game: The Atlanta Falcons Injury Report

John Abraham and Jonathan Babineaux are both questionable for Sunday's NFC Conference Championship Game against the 49ers.

USA TODAY Sports

The Atlanta Falcons are surprisingly healthy heading into the NFC Conference Championship against the 49ers, but that doesn't mean we don't have things to fret over.

John Abraham is, as expected, questionable for this game. His re-aggravated ankle injury can't possibly have healed in a week, likely leaving him limited against the 49ers' quality offensive line. The real question is how effective he'll be in those limited snaps, and the answer to that question may determine the team's fortunes. Kroy Biermann and Cliff Matthews will have their work cut out for them every snap that Abe isn't out there, and if Abe's gimpy, he's not going to be an impact pass rusher. Colin Kaepernick is scary enough without the team's best pass rusher being banged up.

The surprise here is Jonathan Babineaux, who is listed as questionable with a shoulder injury. I expect him to be good to go, but it's not a great sign that two of the team's best defensive linemen are being given a 50% chance to play in easily the most important game of the year.

Chris Owens, William Moore and Stephen Nicholas are all probable, so the secondary and linebacking corps are in good shape. They'll need to be for this one.
