This man needs no introduction.

The Falcons have needed a backup quarterback with some upside for years now, and they appear to have finally found one in Dominque Davis. The rookie undrafted free agent's rise has been truly remarkable, from camp invitee to serious competitor for the #3 quarterback job to possible backup to Matt Ryan in the span of just a few months. He's earned every step up along the way.

Davis has a compelling blend of athleticism, arm strength and football smarts, the latter being something that's awfully difficult to teach to a young quarterback. Davis made his mistakes this off-season--one of this picks was pretty egregious, for example--but he's looked remarkably strong in his action thus far.

Davis should be Ryan's long-term backup if he continues to grow at this rate, and I think we'd all welcome that. Gone are the days of relying on noodle-armed veterans and noodle-armed young guys. The Davis era should give the Falcons a fighting chance if, Football Gods forbid, Ryan ever goes down. It's just not fair to expect that in year one.

Still, for the long haul, Davis should be it. I couldn't be happier to welcome him to the fold.

Give us your thoughts on Davis.
