Falcons 30 -Panthers 28: A Postgame Thread

The Atlanta Falcons won a close football game to the Carolina Panthers thanks to a thrilling last minute drive.

What can you say about a game like that? The Falcons were simply outclassed by the Panther for large portions of the game, and yet they won. It was, truly, one for the ages.

Even elite football teams have very bad games, but this one was full to the brim of alarming signs. A line that allowed Matt Ryan to be sacked seven times, a defense that couldn't contain a dynamic quarterback and the ugly failings of the run defense turned this one from a sure win into a frankly pathetic loss.

Where do the Falcons go from here? They need to improve their line play on both sides of the ball, clearly, and not rest on their laurels just because they're still undefeated. There's a lot of work to be done, and I would be a liar if I pretend I wasn't concerned at how the Panthers pushed them around today. It's a concern.

Still, the Falcons won! What a freakin' game.

It's a new week next week, and the Falcons have a commanding divisional lead at 4-0. Let's hope they prove this close game to be the exception, not the rule.
