In what personally comes across as not a surprise whatsoever, in fact if you were to walk up to me, say "Surprise" in your best Ben Stein voice, it would be more of a surprise than this, the Falcons' D has openly said they prefer Mike Nolan to Brian Van Gorder.
Nevermind the fact that Nolan's defensive schemes have been straight up awesome, come to find out that Nolan is a bit less angry at the players all the time. BVG was quite the yeller, you see. In fact, DeCoud said that he learned to just tone out some of the things BVG would say.
Is that normal for a football team? I dunno. It doesn't sound good to me, though. Personally I'd start resenting a coach that yelled at me all the time. The players said that was just BVG's style. I guess you get used to it when you deal with many different coaches over your football career.
Mike Nolan has gone from a screamer like BVG to more of a grandparent, for lack of a better term. That's not to say Nolan is growing old and senile, because the evidence certainly suggests otherwise, but he holds everyone accountable and basically says, "If you don't do your job, you don't play."
Cue up the "OMFG" BVG gif that we all know and love.
Sounds like we have a winner at the DC position. Thoughts?
