Big tip of the hat to kacc56 for breaking the Mike Peterson signing. In case you missed it, Peterson was signed by the Falcons today.
Peterson knows the system and gives Atlanta some depth and flexibility at linebacker. That’s important because middle linebacker Lofa Tatupu will miss at least the start of training camp with a pectoral injury. That means second-year pro Akeem Dent will open camp working with the first team.
I'm assuming the intent here is to shift one of Peterson, Weatherspoon, or Nicholas inside if need be. I'm not sure I love that idea.
In any case, I'm not a doctor, and there's no telling how long we'll be Tatupuless. I think we can rest assured that it isn't a type 4 pec tear, because those are literally impossible to repair. Type 3s are nearly impossible to repair, and apparently most surgeons refuse to operate on them. It sounds like Type 1 and Type 2 tears aren't a walk in the park either. Peterson provides some depth, though it isn't exactly the depth you'd prefer. Thoughts?
