After four full seasons and eight weeks into this one, Mike Smith has won more games than any coach in Falcons history.
Smitty passed Dan Reeves on the all-time franchise list today, racking up his 50th against the Philadelphia Eagles. As I've said before, it's kind of amazing that 50 wins is good for top on the franchise list, but this is a new era of Falcons football. This is one where winning is not just commonplace, but expected.
The fact that the Falcons are 7-0 means this honor is even sweeter for Smith, who took over a team in disarray back in 2008 and molded them into instant annual playoff contenders. The players and front office deserve a huge chunk of credit for the yeoman's work they've done, but Smitty has been the steady hand at the helm. That's worth an awful lot.
If you would, take a moment to thank the Football Gods for our coach, and wish him another 50+ wins with this franchise. He deserves that and more.
