The Falcons aren't cutting any big names just yet, but their roster pruning is in full swing.
ESPN reports that the Falcons let go of punter Jacob Harfman, who was running as the third-string punter in training camp, and Rob McGill, who was running at about one billionth on the offensive tackle depth chart. Neither comes as a surprise to any of us, I'm sure. May they both land on their feet elsewhere.
The upshot of these moves? Nothing changes along the offensive line, where McGill was the longest of long-shots to have any value at all. At punter, however, it means the competition is down to Matt Bosher and Ken Parrish. Since Bosher was both a draft pick and is being praised by the coaching staff for his kickoff chops, I think he's going to win.
You'll likely see a handful of these kinds of cuts before the real surprises start rolling in. It's worth remembering that guys like Chauncey Davis, Spencer Adkins and Justin Peelle are no locks to make the final roster.
Comment on these moves, gentle readers!
