Sunshine, Finneran 2.0, or - if you please - K-Dawg: the man has many names. And now he has a charity. Jayson Jenks of the The Kansas City Star penned an interesting read about Meier yesterday. For those not-in-the-know, Meier's brother died last April, and then he suffered a season-ending injury 4 months later. Notwithstanding those hardships, he's seemingly ready to rock this Fall:
In the days following Dylan’s death, Kerry, his brothers Shad and Adam and Dylan’s close friends formed the Get Busy Livin’ Foundation in Dylan’s honor.
Get Busy Livin’ held its first major event in May, when more than 700 people participated in a 5K in the Meier’s hometown of Pittsburg, Kan.
Kerry, who caught 199 passes and 16 touchdowns during his last two seasons at KU, said he’s nearing full health for the first time since the injury.
"Not quite there yet, but I feel like I’m turning the corner, which feels good," Kerry said. "It’s been a long time coming."
For now, Kerry works out voluntarily with his teammates in Atlanta.
Gosh I want him to thrive as a Falcon. Ultimately - and this is admittedly the glass-is-half-empty viewpoint - I worry about where he will fit in, at least this year. Methinks the WR depth chart shakes out as follows:
WR1 - Roddy
WR2 - Julio
WR3 - Jenkins
WR4 - Douglas
WR5 - Meier/Weems
Long story short, his opportunities will be far and few between. In time though (especially once we cut Jenkins), he should earn a larger role, though he will have to find a way to overcome his relative lack of speed.
Weight in folks!
