Falcons TWESTOTE of the Day: End of Lockout So Close the Players Can "Feel" It

New, comments

I'm baaaaaaaaaack. Glad to see the site is still operable. And a grande gracias to Caleb for filing my size 10 birkenstocks over the past couple of weeks. Without further adieu, let's get down to the nitty-gritty.

DOL penned this journalistic masterpiece [insert skeptical facial expression here] today. There are a few interesting excerpts worth taking note of:

The Falcons’ seven-on-seven practice on Tuesday was the most spirited one it weeks.

The Falcons reported for training camp on July 29 last season. Also, an early July settlement would allow for teams to have a frenzied couple of weeks of free agency if a new collective bargaining agreement is reached.

Long story short, we've officially entered crunch time. It's right meow. If I were an owner, I'd want free agency to precede the start of training camp. It's not that you can't assimilate someone in mid-August. Truth-be-told that's what happens when an injury keeps a player from participating at the outset of TC. These guys are professionals, and unless you're a QB or a rookie, learning a new system isn't all that problematic. But in an ideal world - assuming cohesiveness is a an end worth striving for - free agency splashes are accompanied by a recovery period.

As for today's practice, I'm not surprised it was spirited. Much of that is likely attributable to Roddy's triumphant return. Let's be honest though, it's a good sign that the lawyers are involved. Without a doubt, they're heading in the right direction. Commentators know it. We know it. The players feel it.

Discuss.
