Hypothetical Free Agency Heats Up: Nnamdi Asomugha To Falcons?

Around this time of year, the free agent talk is usually fast and furious. When the off-season features a lockout and little NFL news, you can forgive pundits for going a little stir crazy.

That's how you get the kind of hypotheticals posited by former NFL great Cris Carter and relayed to us by SBN Atlanta's James Grayson. Carter suggests that Raiders cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha should ink a deal with the Falcons once free agency comes around.

I know a lot of you like Asomugha—I consider him one of the best cornerbacks of the past decade—but this just isn't going to happen. The Falcons already ponied up big money for one cornerback last year in the form of Dunta Robinson, and they need to lock up Brent Grimes for the long haul. Asomugha is on the wrong side of 30 and his signing might prevent the Falcons from signing someone like Ray Edwards, and the team needs to bolster its pass rush more than it needs to fix up the secondary at the moment.

Read Grayson's account for more thoughts on the topic, but I just can't see it happening. How about you?
