A Potential Atlanta Falcons Draft Pick: Marcus Gilchrist

If you hadn't yet gotten the idea that the Falcons are chasing explosive players in the 2011 NFL Draft, then you are clearly new to this site from the distant planet Rigel 7. Welcome!

The latest evidence to support that idea comes in the form of Marcus Gilchrist, the Clemson defensive back with the impressive measurables. Gilchrist worked out with the Falcons on Thursday and could well be a late round consideration for the team. He's certainly a talented player.

So what are these measurables I mentioned? Glad you asked. He ran a 4.45 40 yard-dash, a 4.25 short shuttle, managed 26 reps on the ol' bench press and did pretty well on his broad jump. Though he stands just 5'9", Gilchrist has a reputation as a fierce hitter and a positionally versatile player who can handle cornerback, safety and returner. He's also drawing interest from the Raiders. That combination of versatility and athleticism—and the potential to be a pretty badass complement to Eric Weems as a kick or punt returner—should make him tempting for our Comrade Dimitroff.

Thoughts about Gilchrist?
