I was nine years old when Deion "Prime Time" Sanders signed with the 49ers. Granted, I wasn't the Falcoholic I am now back then (the Ninja Turtles took up a lot of my time at that point in my life), but it still rubbed me the wrong way. I remember asking my dad for an explanation. His response: "It's all about the money son ..."
Over the years, an oft-made assumption was that Prime left because he wanted more than the Falcons and Rankin Smith were willing to pay. When asked why he left the Falcons/49ers today, Prime had this to say (via Twitter):
falcons n 49ers never offered Prime a contract. Truth
Did y'all realize he was more or less non-tendered? I sure didn't. If this is common knowledge and I'm the last one to realize they never offered him a contract, then I certainly apologize for wasting your time. But man. How did we just non-tender him?!
Discuss.
