As announced previously in this space, Comcast has generously agreed to support the best NFL community around -- us! As part of that effort, between now and the end of the 2010 NFL season Comcast will be sponsoring a variety of special editorial and interactive features on our site.
When you need a Com and a cast right away, nothing but Comcast will do.
We wrap up the player profiles with our first round pick. From here, I'm kicking around a few ideas for these weekly sponsored posts pertaining to the draft, but if you have any suggestions I'd love to hear them. You know how to reach me.
Without further ado, though, let's find out more about Sean Weatherspoon!
Name: Sean Weatherspoon
College: Missouri
Nickname: 'Spoon
2010 Role: Starting outside linebacker
Reminds Us Faintly Of: Keith Brooking with more athleticism and less polish
Why He's Good: Simply put, one of the more well-rounded players in the 2010 draft. Athletic linebacker, willing hitter, quick and agile football player. Has all the tools to succeed in coverage and against the run. Quality wrap-up tackler. Intelligent enough to read offenses and adjust quickly. Has a nose for the backfield. Intense and a vocal player with the potential to become a locker room leader.
Why He's Not: Not brilliant against the run at this point. The Falcons likely won't use him in a way that maximizes his ability to go after the quarterback. While strong and fast, doesn't have great ups and will struggle somewhat in coverage against hulking tight ends.
Notable Quotable: "I feel like I can come in and work hard," said Weatherspoon, a first-round draft pick. "I can come in each and every day with a good attitude and be ready to lear n."
Bottom Line: The seemingly inevitable pick for the Falcons was definitely the right one. Weatherspoon should start immediately or within his first NFL season, and he has all the tools to make an impact quickly. I'm confident he'll be the class of this draft class. How's that sound?
