Sunday Morning Bloody Mary: One Falcon To Watch Is John Abraham

New, comments

Every week before the Falcons game, I'll be selecting one player to keep an especially close eye on. This week, it's defensive end John Abraham.

Remember when we thought Abe was done? We speculated that he was slower, that he couldn't reach the quarterback, that age was finally catching up with him. Even though advanced metrics showed he was still generating consistent pressure, it was our eyes and our guts that we ultimately went with.

Hard to argue that anything's wrong with the Predator now. He's piled up 11 sacks in 14 games, terrorizing quarterbacks around the league and generally becoming an agent of pandemonium in the backfield. You gotta love that.

Against Matt Hasselbeck, our favorite pass rusher should have a very nice game. Hasselbeck has been sacked 28 times in 2010 and is operating behind an offensive line that struggles against speedy defenses in general. You'll see his number frequently in front of Hasselbeck today, hopefully accompanied by the quarterback's comically large eyes. And then a sack.

So watch John Abraham closely. He may just add to that sack total today.
