I hope to see all the loyal Falcoholic readers here today, as we come together for the chance of a historic game that could at least symbolically mark the turnaround of the Atlanta Falcons as we know them.
There's little question that this is a team on a better path than it was in 2007, when Michael Vick was imprisoned, Bobby Petrino fled the team and the talent base seemed middling. Now, two years later, many of us are not completely happy with a winning record for the second season a row. It's a sign of how expectations have changed and it's a sign of just how stunning this turnaround has been.
And yet I can't help but feel that putting the 9-7 cap on 2009 (and now 2010) would really validate the whole thing. Getting those back-to-back winning seasons would mean a lot, even if it's just a talking point to aim praise at. I, for one, hope we can lock it down early and celebrate through the afternoon, but life is rarely that easy. Bring on the Bucs!
What: Atlanta Falcons at Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 1 p.m. EST
Where: Raymond James Stadium, Tampa, Florida
Weather: Probably not as cold and miserable as it promises to be up here in New England. If you're heading to the game, enjoy the sun!
Injuries: A metric buttload of questionables. I imagine Matt Ryan will play, but everyone else is very much up in the air.
The most notable absence for the Bucs would be RB Derrick Ward, who is questionable. Without him, the Bucs would have to lean heavily on Cadillac Williams.
Odds? Tampa Bay over Atlanta 2.0, O/U 41.5
Foe? It's gotta be Buc 'Em. Go say hi in your journey today.
GO FALCONS! Let's make these Bucs walk the plank!
