The Falcons have promoted Billy Devaney to the high post of assistant general manager, giving McKay a closer link to the guy who has been a key negotiator of contracts since last year. The Steve Wyche article would be worth it just for the first line. When I picture Rich McKay with a wingman, I imagine them going out to bars together:
Rich: Man, you see that girl? I'd like to negotiate a one night contract with her.
Billy: Want me to go find out if she's a free agent?
Rich: You're my wingman, Goose.
But in all seriousness, this gives the Falcons someone to groom if they decide to fire McKay or McKay books it for another team. I'd like to note that I don't think either of those are likely in the near future, but you never know. It also essentially gives the Falcons two GMs, which should technically give them twice the brain power. Given how badly the Falcons need to do smart things, this can't possibly hurt.
Side note: I did see the NFL's elite squad of agents is now looking into the Vick matter. Until/if they find something of consequence, I'm not too concerned about it.
