The Falcons have given a pittance to re-sign Matt Schaub, but the calculated gamble here is a good one. Two million bucks isn't bad for a capable backup, and if someone wants to sign him they're giving up a first and third rounder for him. I'm scratching my head a little to figure out who would give that up; the Lions seem like an excellent destination for Schaub, but I can't imagine them giving up the second pick in the draft. The message this sends is that the Falcons are pretty intent on keeping Schaub, and there's a pretty good chance nobody's going to come knocking. I'm not sure whether I'd rather have Schaub or those two draft choices, but with the number of holes we could be needing to fill, I'm almost tempted to say the choices.
We'll see.
