Falcons Not Dandy Without Gandy, Weiner

We're boned.

I'm not the world's biggest Gandy fan, but he and Weiner were steady veterans at the most key pass protection spots on the line. Tyson Clabo has at least been in this position before; he was forced into duty last year and acquitted himself enough that I don't think it's the end of the world. Renardo Foster, on the other hand, is relatively unproven. He also has the terrifying task of blocking out Osi Umenyiora, the talented Giants defensive end who has been stockpiling sacks so far this season. The Falcons are obviously planning to give those two some help, but it's not going to be an easy task.

This reduces the chance that the Falcons are simply going to stand back and huck it. The pass rush for the Giants is probably going to make or break this game. I can't see the Falcons winning this game if the line doesn't perform well, which makes Foster and Clabo's performance absolutely critical. If Foster gets burnt a few times, the coaching staff can't have any reservations about sitting him and giving Quinn Ojinnaka a try. Because the Falcons opted to go without drafting a tackle this summer we're left in the hands of two undrafted rookie tackles for 2-6 weeks on one side and indefinitely on the other.

I think we'd all better pray.
