That’s eight votes for the Falcons taking Pettigrew, two for English, two for Ziggy, one for Jeria, one for Jenkins, one for Butler and one for Davis. That’s a fairly heavy consensus for the 24th pick, which could mean somebody knows something. Or it could mean, to borrow from the screenwriter William Goldman (who had the Sundance Kid going ahead of Butch Cassidy in his mock), nobody knows anything.

AJC's D. Orlando Ledbetter Mocks LB Clay Matthews Jr. As Falcon Pick

Frankly, I'd be pretty happy with this outcome on draft day. Matthews may not be an elite physical specimen, true. He will be in on a lot of plays, though, and should do well in coverage given some time. Your thoughts?

AJC's Mark Bradley: Falcons Eyeing DT Evander Hood?

This would be another pick that some folks would consider a slight reach, but Hood is a legitimate prospect and his stock is back up after an excellent pro day. The only thing that concerns me--and Bradley notes this--is that he really had a poor senior season. Your thoughts on Hood?

Atlanta Journal-Constitution Reports L.J. Smith Not Signing With Falcons

D. Orlando Ledbetter reports that L.J. Smith has balked at joining the Falcons and the team has in turn decided that he'd be a poor fit for their blocking heavy tight end scheme. You may now rejoice.

Falcons Courting Free Agents L.J. Smith, Daniel Loper

The Atlanta Falcons continue their sudden free agent surge, mulling a contract for tight end L.J. Smith and visiting with offensive tackle Daniel Loper on Friday. Good news for Falcons fans!

Falcons Re-Sign Four Free Agents

The Falcons re-signed Jason Snelling, Brent Grimes, Tony Gilbert and Antoine Harris. Snelling ought to compete for carries this fall and Grimes will likely be a nickel or dime back at worst. Gilbert and Harris will be counted on to contribute on special teams, but Vishnu help us if they get on the field on defense.

Thomas Dimitroff, Superstar General Manager

Great article on Mark Bradley's AJC blog about Thomas Dimitroff, his philosophy, his qualifications and his life as a cyborg general managing machine. In the interest of full disclosure, I made one of those up.

Atlanta Journal-Constitution Free Agent Slideshow

The title pretty much says it all. That James Butler guy looks kind of interesting, doesn't he?

In Defense Of The First Two Days Of Falcon Free Agency

A defense of the path the Atlanta Falcons seem to be choosing in free agency by a guy who has been miserably wrong in doubting new general manager Thomas Dimitroff in the past.

AJC's Jeff Schultz Thinks Highly Of The Falcons

Atlanta Journal-Constitution columnist Jeff Schultz is rather bullish on the Falcons, even going so far as to horribly jinx us by predicting a winning season next year.
