Falcons Being Set Up For Glenn Dorsey Pick

If you believe NBC Sports writer Tom Curran, the Dolphins are extremely close to agreeing on a contract with OT Jake Long. Let the gnashing of teeth and weeping commence.

What's interesting about this is that Curran thinks the Rams will also snap up Chris Long at #2 in this scenario, which leaves the Falcons with a clear choice between Matt Ryan, Glenn Dorsey and perhaps Sedrick Ellis. Because I believe our good Comrade does not like weak American quarterback, Dorsey seems like a better than 75% bet to be the Falcon pick at #3.

I would be more than okay with that. While I believe the Falcons would be best served with Long and then a series of picks aimed at our other needs, Dorsey would be an absolute killer building block along that defensive line. I don't know how Jamaal Anderson would avoid getting a sack or two next year if Dorsey was mauling linemen like an angry bear. In this scenario, the Falcons still have an excellent chance to pick up Sam Baker or Gosder Cherilus (greatest name ever!) at offensive tackle in the second round. Frankly, I don't think we lose with either Dorsey or Jake Long at that spot.

This does give the Falcons an interesting look next year. Assuming the team takes Dorsey, they have chronically injured but also amazing John Abraham on one end, Dorsey and either Trey Lewis or Babineaux in the middle, and giant rookie disappointment Jamaal Anderson on the other side. Pair that with goddamn soul-devouring phantasm Michael Boley, Keith Brooking and Stephen Nicholas in the linebacking corps and you have a very underrated front seven that could make our lives a little more bearable next season.

Not so fast...
I believe that the Rams will take Dorsey if he is there at #2.  I am really getting the feeling that even if Dorsey is there, Matty Ice is the pick.  Just a feeling...

Busting my bubble
I'd like to believe the Rams will simply find Chris Long too good to pass up.

The question if they do take Dorsey is what the Falcons should do. They could draft Chris Long, trade down with the Ravens, draft Matt Ryan....what do you think?

draft day trades
The thing about Ryan is that we obviously need a QB and this is the only slot in this draft where we know we can draft, from what alot of draftniks say, a longterm viable starter in this league.  We are not guaranteed a chance to be able to trade up or have one fall to us in round 2.  If anything, we should be able to drum up some interest from the Ravens like you say...move down to 8 (save some money) and pick up another day one pick.  Watch out for the Rams to try and make a move with either the Saints, Ravens, Bengals (who all highly covet either Ryan or Dorsey)

I like the idea
I've heard rumblings that the Saints may even consider a draft day trade with us if Dorsey is still there, and I'm not opposed to that for the right price. If we can move down and Long or Dorsey isn't there, it might be the wise move.

4 guys for three spots
Dorsey, Ellis and both Long boys are all legit picks, so with 4 quality players sitting in the wing, you have to like the Falcons chances with the three pick.  But some folks just keep making me nervous with all this Ryan talk.  If they blow their pick on this kid, it could take 4 or 5 years to recover.  But I love the front 7 projection above.  Kinda gives you goosebumps thinking about a dominant pass rush in the Dirty, doesn't it?  Only 5 more days and counting...

ESPN SEZ RYAN
All a colossal crap-shoot, but ESPN keeps harping that the Falcons will pick Ryan -according to the ubiquitous 'unnamed sources".

As far as I know, Ryan only hit the radar last year...I don't remember anyone mentioning him the year before. That makes me skeptical. (Unlike Brohm, who's been mentioned alot of the years.)

Dorsey? He makes me even more skeptical... seemingly ALWAYS injured, but then again, so is Abraham. When healthy, they do their thing....

Not sold on this pedigree nonsense of Howie's boy...that didn't work out for Sweetness' son or Klecko's, etc...

And Jake...who knows?

This is like speculating on what you're getting for Christmas...I'll trust Dimitroff & Coach to do their thing this time around.
