Falcons Re-Up With Montavious Stanley

More defensive tackles? Sure, back the truck up!

Rotoworld sez Montavious Stanley has re-signed with the Falcons, giving the team truly incredible depth at defensive tackle. Stanley isn't starter grade, but I'm comfortable with him being the top backup at either spot. He's a squat run stopper who can get the job done, though this puts the Falcons no closer to having a dominant starting tackle. For what I'm sure is a small commitment, though, Stanley will be dand...ley.

Any chance of him starting, guys?

Not Sure about starting, but...
..what I think is most interesting about all the DT depth signings is that it makes me wonder if they are attempting to fill a need with excessive mid-level players so that they can free up another pick for something else?  I know it sounds stupid when you just read the text, but in a way it makes sense.  By signing more than what you need at a position you allow yourself to have a very nice rotation of players during a game, keeping all fresh and hopefully injury free, thereby creating a temporary fix to one problem/need and allowing yourself to focus more attention (read money/draft picks) toward a somewhat more pressing problem/need.

Now, does that mean that I really think we will skip on Dorsey or Ellis at three, if they are there of course and both Longs are gone, and draft say a QB instead?  No, not really, but I still have a bad feeling about that pick if Ryan is sitting there.  It is interesting though.  Maybe we should sign some more DE for depth or maybe even some mediocre o-linemen.

I kind of like that idea
I think if we had one quality, starting caliber defensive tackle, the other spot could be filled by a rotation of our newly acquired backups. Another point for Glenn Dorsey or Sedrick Ellis, I guess.
