Falcons Will Pick Third!
At long last, we know what separates Thomas Dimitroff from every other general manager out there. This morning he swaggered up, his hands on a pair of pearl-handled revolvers, and called "tails" in such a deep and menacing voice that Roger Goodell swooned. His reward?
The #3 pick in the draft, of course!
I think the team is going a little overboard with the way they're gushing over this pick. Unless they do something great with it, it's just another in a long line of Falcons triumphs which is being pre-celebrated. The possibilities available there, however, are quite literally staggering. Dimitroff could go for Glenn Dorsey to anchor the defensive line, Darren McFadden as an explosive offensive weapon, Matt Ryan as a scary-but-potentially-great choice at quarterback or one of the Longs at tackle or defensive end. There's so many choices that it makes my head spin.
If the Falcons parlay DeAngelo Hall for the 31st pick and others, that will give them a mind-boggling number of draft choices this spring. I'm not exactly a supporter of that trade (more on this later today), but Dimitroff's commitment to rebuilding through the draft has never been clearer than it is right now.
I just hope he drafts as well as he calls coin flips.

Maybe another first rounder in the future?
With their top two free-agent targets wearing pricey franchise tags, the Giants are trying another route toward getting a top cornerback: A trade with the Falcons for two-time Pro Bowl cornerback DeAngelo Hall. According to two people with knowledge of discussions between the teams, the Giants are willing to give Atlanta their first-round pick (31st overall) in April's draft in exchange for Hall. The people requested anonymity because of the private nature of the trade talks. The Giants had hoped to make a run at the Seahawks' Marcus Trufant and the Raiders' Nnamdi Asomugha, according to one of the people familiar with the team's off-season plans, but each was made the franchise players by their respective teams.
If we have no plans on resigning D-Hall, then we HAVE to make this trade. That would give us 4 top 50 picks. Thoughts?

Ha.
Buzz around the league is that McFadden's stock is set to plummet due to some previous off field issues that are going to see the light soon. I am also getting the feeling that the Boys aren't as in love with McFadden as they were before. I predict that they 'Boys stay right were they are and choose from the deep RB draft pool or maybe even go WR knowing they can score a decent RB to back up Barber in the 2nd round as WR is def. more of a pressing need for them.
TO had a GREAT year, but he is getting up in age, Terry Glenn is also old, not to mention that "she" is also injury prone. Patrick Crayton? Well the only reason he got such a big deal was that the bastard Parcells was going to try and lure him away. At best he is a #2 WR.

That was for the #1 pick...
I'm hesitant about taking a QB that high, but I can justify it more than a running back. If we end up with one of the OL/DL guys at #3, I won't complain.

Third Pick
Whether it's Dorsey, Long or Long. We need to stay away from Ryan & McFadden until after the combine. There are plenty of good running backs in the draft and few as good as what we now have (Norwood is faster and shifter than any in the draft). Taking Ryan is not a necessity, he is not in my opinion a true "Franchise QB". Let's build up the O & D lines and work with what we now have!

At least people are getting off the McFadden...
Everyone is loving Dorsey, but he's sitting out the combine. I just think it's a bit of SEC love that has him rated over Ellis.
My rankings for our spot:
- Chris Long
- Jake Long
- Sed Ellis
- Matt Ryan
- Glenn Dorsey

Boring but...
This team has a long way to go before they can be relevant. At this point they should be stockpiling draft picks, protecting cap space and focusing on aquiring strength in the trenches.
As for Hall, I'd seriously consider taking a good 6-pack for him at this point; a late first rounder? No question.
