Sprint Game Ball of the Week
Falcons Sprint Game Ball Of The Week: Brent Grimes
Move aside, hurricanes. Give way, volcanoes. Don't let the door hit you on the way out, sunspots. Brent Grimes is now the most fearsome force of nature you can imagine.
Grimey has struggled at times in 2010, but he's been the Falcons' best cornerback, too. On Sunday, Grimes took his game to a whole new level, locking down his side of the field to the tune of two completions and less than a dozen yards. He also nearly picked Josh Freeman once and came back for more, leaping in front of a pass and somehow keeping control of it as he tumbled to the ground. If you can pretend not to be impressed by that, you're probably Josh Freeman.
So let's hand the game ball to Grimes, since we gave Eric Weems the MVP. If we don't hand it to him, he's just going to pick it off anyways.
Falcons Sprint Game Ball Of The Week: The Offensive Line
It's time to hand out the game ball for the week, and I'm switching up my pick from a day ago. I know! Shocking.
I felt like I needed to give the offensive line its due. They've allowed only two sacks in the last four weeks—both against a nasty Baltimore Ravens front seven—and they kept Ryan on his feet all day long against a quality Rams pass rush. Suddenly, the widely reviled Sam Baker is protecting his quarterback's blindside, and we're all better for it.
That's why the offensive line gets the Sprint Game Ball of the Week. Feel free to argue.
Falcons Sprint Game Ball of the Week: Roddy White
Spring has decreed that we must giveth out a game ball for most excellent performanceth, and verily we gave it to Roddy White. All hail Roddy White!
You'd be hard-pressed to find a more dominant performance, and I include Titans hero Kenny Britt in that assessment. Roddy regularly beat Leon Hall and double teams on Sunday en route to 11 catches, 201 yards and two touchdowns. He made big catches in the first quarter (46 yard strike from Matt Ryan), the second quarter (43 yard touchdown bomb), and fourth quarter (11 yard touchdown catch). The third quarter was miserable and we're not going to talk about it.
In the process, White gained a growing national audience for his excellent play. At this point, he's a top five wide receiver in the NFL and well on his way to smashing every significant wide receiver record the Atlanta Falcons can offer up. To put it plainly, he's dominating.
That's why Roddy gets the Sprint Game Ball of the Week.
Week 5 Sprint Game Ball Goes To Kroy Biermann
This post is sponsored by Sprint.
Duh.
If you watched Biermann do his thing and came up with anyone else, I'd like to know who it is. Kroy's play generated 6 points in a game where the Falcons only scored 20, stopped the Browns in their tracks and was prettier than a hammered prom queen.
Congratulations go to Biermann.
Extremely honorable mentions go to Michael Turner for dominating on the ground and to John Abraham for single-handedly destroying Seneca Wallace and what little was left of Jake Delhomme's soul.
