If you believe NBC Sports writer Tom Curran, the Dolphins are extremely close to agreeing on a contract with OT Jake Long. Let the gnashing of teeth and weeping commence.

What's interesting about this is that Curran thinks the Rams will also snap up Chris Long at #2 in this scenario, which leaves the Falcons with a clear choice between Matt Ryan, Glenn Dorsey and perhaps Sedrick Ellis. Because I believe our good Comrade does not like weak American quarterback, Dorsey seems like a better than 75% bet to be the Falcon pick at #3.

I would be more than okay with that. While I believe the Falcons would be best served with Long and then a series of picks aimed at our other needs, Dorsey would be an absolute killer building block along that defensive line. I don't know how Jamaal Anderson would avoid getting a sack or two next year if Dorsey was mauling linemen like an angry bear. In this scenario, the Falcons still have an excellent chance to pick up Sam Baker or Gosder Cherilus (greatest name ever!) at offensive tackle in the second round. Frankly, I don't think we lose with either Dorsey or Jake Long at that spot.

This does give the Falcons an interesting look next year. Assuming the team takes Dorsey, they have chronically injured but also amazing John Abraham on one end, Dorsey and either Trey Lewis or Babineaux in the middle, and giant rookie disappointment Jamaal Anderson on the other side. Pair that with goddamn soul-devouring phantasm Michael Boley, Keith Brooking and Stephen Nicholas in the linebacking corps and you have a very underrated front seven that could make our lives a little more bearable next season.

The Pittsburgh Steelers surprise slightly here by picking WR Limas Sweed. The team did need a receiver, so it makes sense on some level. Sweed's just not a Steeler name, you know?

Up next, the Tennessee Titans, represented by Music City Miracles. The Titans have important needs at defensive end, linebacker and wide receiver. With that in mind, you know the drillio.

The Cowboys picked CB Aqib Talib, ignoring whatever character issues were at stake in order to add the best corner left in the draft. Typical Cowboys, ignoring the really important issues like character and totally investing in a guy's ability to play football. What a bunch of crap.

Anyways, we're on to the Steelers now. In my humble opinion, this team could use a lot of help for Big Ben at wide receiver, running back and tight end. Couldn't hurt to draft a corner, linebacker or defensive end, either, so this is a really wide open selection. The Redskins overwhelmingly went with G Branden Albers, one of the fastest risers in the draft. I doubt he'll still be there at #21, but the 'Skins will get a great value if he is.

Next we have the Dallas Cowboys, represented by the eldest and most distinguished SBN football blogger, Dave Halprin of Blogging The Boys. The Cowboys need help in the secondary, possibly at linebacker and definitely at running back alongside Marion Barber. With that in mind (Dave picked CB Antoine Cason, by the way), go to it.

I'm taking the somewhat unusual step of breaking a tie with this based solely on my own judgment. I think the Bucs are more likely to take Devin Thomas than Early Doucet, so that's what's going to happen. Clearly, either is a bit of a reach for this Bucs team, but that voting couldn't have worked out in any less of a convenient way.

Next up are the Washington Redskins, who are in a weird position of their own. After years of splurging in free agency, the 'Skins are left in the position of needing a little bit of everything. Big items on the wish list include help on the offensive line, in the secondary, and through the receiving corps. Hogs Haven has you covered for all your Redskin needs on this one.

In one of the more interesting twists of our mock draft thus far, the Bucs get DeSean Jackson scooped out from under them by the Eagles. My good friend JScott at Buc 'Em would likely be unhappy about this development. Since I hate the Bucs, I have to lavishly praise Eagles fan for this one.

Next up are the Bucs, who have a major need at wide receiver and arguable needs at QB, corner and along the offensive line. With that in mind, you've got a decision to make.

I just wanted to give a brief shout-out to new blogger saintsational, who is taking over our long neglected Canal Street Chronicles blog. Once we get closer to the season, I expect plenty of smack talk, so be sure to drop by and give him a warm welcome.

The Texans make a sensible pick, grabbing RB Jonathan Stewart to shore up a pretty sad running game. Works for me.
