Atlanta Falcons @ New York Giants Playoff Open Thread

Photo

Win or go home.

The Falcons are squaring off against the New York Giants today, and if you haven't heard enough about this matchup, scroll down on our main page or visit Big Blue View. Suffice to say it may well be the closest game of the Wild Card round, and it won't be easy for either team. I still believe the Falcons can and will pull it off.

Here's our inactives:

QB 4 – J Wilson
WR 12 – K Cone
CB 20 – B Grimes
LB 54 – S Nicholas
C 66 – B Romberg
OL 73 – K Chambers
WR 80 – K Meier
DE 98 – C Matthews

Before this begins, let me just say that I'm proud of this team for clinching back-to-back playoff berths for the first time in franchise history. What I really, desperately want to see now is a win for Thomas Dimitroff and Mike Smith, the first of their four year tenure in Atlanta. Let's hope today offers up a great game and a victory.

For the record, it's been an honor and a privilege to talk Falcons with you guys all year long. You're a great group of fans.

Atlanta Falcons-New Orleans Saints Open Thread

The game you've waited for all season is here.

The NFC South is at stake here, even if a playoff spot is not. It's not unreasonable to think that the Saints could be beaten by the Falcons and Panthers these next two weeks, even if it's a bit unlikely. The Falcons also want to prove they can beat a legitimate title contender heading into the post-season, where one loss gets you bounced and inconsistent football gets your embarrassed on national television.

The Falcons will have to slow down Drew Brees, bring some real firepower to the Super Dome and avoid mistakes if they're going to head home with a win. I look forward to watching them try.

As always, use this as your all-purpose discussion thread for the game. I'll sweep in and add another thread for the second half and more after that as needed. Enjoy the game, everyone.

Atlanta Falcons-Jacksonville Jaguars Open Thread

Photo

It's just about that time, boys and girls.

The Falcons take on the Jaguars at home tonight. A win would lock up the team's fourth straight winning season and put them on the path to the playoffs. A loss would be very bad news for so many reasons, not the least of which is that the Falcons have to play the Saints next.

Expect a lot of passing from the Falcons, and a lot of Maurice Jones-Drew from the Jaguars. It ought to be one hell of a compelling game, despite the apparent talent gap between the two teams, because the Jaguars are fighting for pride and are coming off a big win against the Buccaneers. The Falcons are fighting for their very playoff lives.

As always, follow along with the action here. I'll be joining you for the duration, if all goes well.

Atlanta Falcons-Carolina Panthers Redux Open Thread

Win and get to 8-5. Lose and go to 7-6 and really give your wild card chances a kick in the balls.

That's what the Falcons are facing today in their road game against the Carolina Panthers. If they can run the ball well, shut down Cam Newton and play mistake-free football, this is a winnable one. Let's hope they can do all of that.

As usual, I'll be here following the game with you. Enjoy and let's hope for the best.

Atlanta Falcons-Houston Texans Open Thread

ATLANTA, GA - NOVEMBER 26: Matt Ryan #2 of the Atlanta Falcons scrambles against the Minnesota Vikings at the Georgia Dome on November 26, 2011 in Atlanta, Georgia. (Photo by Scott Cunningham/Getty Images)

The clash of the number one seed in the AFC and an aspiring NFC playoff team. Game of the week material right here.

The Falcons will hope to run their record to 8-4, putting them in excellent position to seize a wildcard spot in a jammed-up NFC. The Texans want to keep their AFC supremacy intact, so they'll be a challenge even without Matt Schaub and Matt Leinart.

Here's the inactives list for the Falcons:

LB Stephen Nicholas
CB Brent Grimes
QB John Parker Wilson
OT Kirk Chambers
C Brett Romberg
DE Cliff Mathews
CB Kelvin Hayden

You know the drill by now. Discuss the game here and I'll post new threads as needed.

Atlanta Falcons-Minnesota Vikings Open Thread

It's that magic time of day again. The Atlanta Falcons are about to test their mettle against the Minnesota Vikings.

It ought to be a good game, despite initial appearances. Follow along with all the action here and be sure to comment early and often. I'll be there to add new game threads as needed.

Here's the list of players who will be inactive for today's game:

CB Kelvin Hayden
CB Darrin Walls
LB Spencer Adkins
C Brett Romberg
OL Kirk Chambers
DT Carlton Powell
DE Cliff Matthews

So Julio Jones and William Moore are both back and in the starting lineup. The Falcons will miss Hayden a bit, but hopefully Chris Owens and/or Dominique Franks can make up for his absence.

Atlanta Falcons-Tennessee Titans Open Thread

Aw yeah.

The moment we've been waiting for all week is here. It's time for the Falcons to stand tall, wash away the loss to the Saints and leave the Georgia Dome 6-4.

As always, use this thread and those that follow it to talk about the game. You'll be glad you did.

NFC Divisional Game Open Thread: Falcons Take On Packers

Photo

I couldn't be more pumped for this game if I was a pair of Rebooks belonging to an OCD nine-year-old. The playoffs certainly bring out that spirit.

I can tell you that I expect a close game here in the Georgia Dome, but I also expect the Falcons to win. I recognize that some analysts find them a boring team, or perhaps even an unworthy one, but all I see is a complete football team scrabbling at the door of greatness. They're gonna break that lock.

Anything further I could say would get in the way of the grand visions you undoubtedly have swirling in your head. Crack open your adult beverage of choice, kick back and enjoy this one. You don't end up as the #1 seed in the NFC every day, after all.

One more quick note. If the Falcons win, don't go over to Acme Packing Company and taunt. Fair warning to Packers fans who would do the same here.

Atlanta Falcons-Carolina Panthers Rematch Open Thread

The season ends today, Falcons fans.

If 2009 was a bit of a disappointment for those of us who follow this team, 2010 has been a dream come true. The Falcons have had a magnificent season, one worth celebration no matter how this game ends. But beating the Panthers has to come first, and the Falcons won't be overlooking this one.

Cheer on the Falcons today. We'll have another thread up at halftime, so use this one while the using's good. Thanks for your support of The Falcoholic.

Falcons-Saints Rematch Open Thread

It's on.

The Falcons will play host to the Saints tonight, but the Cajun Kids may find the Georgia Dome a less hospitable environment than New Orleans. After losing on a Garrett Hartley missed field goal and subsequent Falcons score, the Saints continued to play great football but remained behind the Falcons in the standings. Now they have a chance to lunge forward.

Of course, this is the Falcons' home. They're still playing for home field advantage in the playoffs, so there's still a reason to get up for this game. And then there's the little matter of the Saints being the Falcons' most bitter rivals. I don't think anyone's going to lack for motivation here.

So given that this is likely to be both an awesome game and one with implications for the Falcons' playoff destinies, I expect you all to be out in force. Talk your way through it and look for the second half thread at 10 p.m. sharp.

Go Falcons!
