I think we have the right people in position because I think what they will do is challenge themselves and ask all of the right questions. They would be the wrong people if they said, ‘we tried hard, we didn’t execute and we’ll get better next year.’ I don’t think that’s an answer. The answer is that we’re going to evaluate the team, the players, the coaches and why we didn’t perform in the personnel area and why we didn’t perform at the level that we’re capable of. The beauty of Smitty and Thomas is that they will do that. It’s not their nature to be defensive. They are thoughtful and bright and care about the franchise and winning. They will do what I would want them to do, which is be objective and go through a thorough analysis and not be emotional about it.

Arthur Blank Talks To AJC'S D. Orlando Ledbetter The key point here is that Smitty and Dimitroff were just given a very real vote of confidence. Players and coordinators are not safe, but it appears those two are.

Will The Falcons Be One and Done?

If we don't face a NFC East team than we will, at least in my mind. How about you?

Does it matter if your quarterback can’t throw long with any success? Of Keating’s top 10 deep passers, eight preside over teams with winning records. Of the 10 lowest-ranked deep passers, only one plays for a winning team — Matt Ryan. This would seem to indicate that the Falcons are doing it the hard way.

Mark Bradley on ESPN study of deep ball success Interesting stuff for sure.

"I had my choices between the holes I could hit if they were there, but they just came with the all-out blitz, guys shot the gap and things like that," Turner said. "There really wasn't anywhere to go. I just tried to try harder and give that great effort to get those couple of inches that we needed."

ESPN For those who want to know what Michael Turner thinks of that last play, here you go. I agree with him.

"It's just always tough out there when they are cutting you and hitting you in the knees and stuff like that," White said. "That kind of prolongs your injuries. That's kind of been my problem, getting hit all of the time. I think I'm going to run out of bounds more. Get first downs and stay alive, keep the chains moving."

"We envisioned Jacquizz as being a change of pace back when we drafted him," Smith said. "At the time, we were not sure what our roster was going to look like, because of the uncertainty. Now that we have Jason back, we feel that Jacquizz is going to take that role that we drafted him for, and that was to be a change of pace back."

"I really believe everyone in the NFL is about winning now,’’ Dimitroff said. "This league is driven to win. We all know the adage of "not for long’.’ We have a lot of players who are going into their fourth year in this system and they’re very battle tested. We’ve added some players and we’re very encouraged by that. We want to win as many games as possible. There’s no question about that and we want to achieve our ultimate goal. We’re focused on taking it one game at a time, but our expectations here are very high. We’re focused on continuing to grow together and I like where we are.’’
