The player rep for Stanford Routt indicated the free agent CB already has visits planned with the Titans and Bills. That was quick. Routt is a press corner with a dynamic size/speed package, but he led all cornerbacks with nine touchdowns allowed and 17 penalties last season. In his defense, the Raiders' scheme didn't help. Rotoworld's Evan Silva ranks Routt fourth behind Brent Grimes, Cortland Finnegan, and Brandon Carr among free agent corners. The Titans likely view him as a replacement for Finnegan. You move those guys around according to how the defense is trying to defend you. If you want to play standard personnel on defense, they flex one or both of those guys out and force you to cover them with linebackers. If you put extra defensive backs in, they line up in double-[tight end] and maul you. You never have the right personnel on the field."

In one of the many layers of intrigue in this game, Petersen has said the Boise State offense really just grew out of the Mike Belloti/Dirk Koetter/Jeff Tedford system at Oregon, especially ironic now that the Ducks themselves run something entirely different, the Chip Kelly spread.

They would be the wrong people if they said, ‘we tried hard, we didn’t execute and we’ll get better next year.’ I don’t think that’s an answer. The answer is that we’re going to evaluate the team, the players, the coaches and why we didn’t perform in the personnel area and why we didn’t perform at the level that we’re capable of. The beauty of Smitty and Thomas is that they will do that. It’s not their nature to be defensive. They are thoughtful and bright and care about the franchise and winning. They will do what I would want them to do, which is be objective and go through a thorough analysis and not be emotional about it.

If we don't face a NFC East team than we will, at least in my mind. How about you?Mike Smith taken off of charter flight with chest pains. Taken to hospital. All tests returned negative.
