The Atlanta Falcons are about as healthy as they’ve been in weeks heading into this game against the Chargers, but there will be two notable injuries Sunday.
C.J. Goodwin and Taylor Gabriel the two Falcons ruled out for Sunday’s game. Coach Quinn said Jalen Collins to fill in for Goodwin on ST.

Goodwin, a converted wide receiver, has been effective enough that he hasn’t attracted heavy notice as a cornerback, which speaks well to how well he’s done. Without him, Jalen Collins will get some run at corner and assume a large special teams role, as he did late in the 2015 season. It’ll be good to see what Collins can offer, but we’ll hope Goodwin’s back in relatively short order.
Gabriel, meanwhile, has been a pleasant surprise as an effective receiving option for the Falcons after they plucked him off of waivers. Without him, Aldrick Robinson and perhaps Eric Weems will get a little more run at receiver, but this game is likely to be dominated by Julio Jones and Mohamed Sanu, given the weakness of the Chargers’ secondary.
De’Vondre Campbell and Deion Jones will both have larger roles this time around, so we don’t need to worry about their status the way we did a week ago. I’m looking forward to seeing what a healthy Falcons team can do to San Diego at home.
