I've decided to make this into a series because I’m out of school with nothing to do. I’ll start with the interesting positions and slowly maybe fall into the punters and QB’s left.
First up are CB’s because Brandon Flowers maybe signing anytime soon. he signed as soon as i finished this. :/
Here we go.
This isn’t really a need but if the Front Office doesn’t feel Robert Alford is ready they could pick up one these guys. Note: Alford had a very good minicamp.
Brandon Flowers: 28 yrs old, made the pro bowl last season, and the Falcons were reportedly monitoring him before his release. I think the falcons said they aren’t interested anymore. Check out this post for more info.
Chris Houston: 29 yrs old. Played for the falcons, familiar with the staff, Major Toe Surgery led to his release because it was believed his condition was career threatening. It would be a surprise if the falcons targeted him.
Asante Samuel: very unlikely, he might latch onto to some team during training camp or after injuries. I think he still has a 3-5 INT season in him but not with the falcons. #4 best available free agent according to NFL.com not including Flowers.
Jabari Greer: 32 yrs old. "Greer played well last year, but tore his ACL in November. Greer just turned 32, so he may have trouble coming back from his latest knee injury. Not counting the playoffs, Greer has missed 23 games since 2008." Walterfootball.com
Terrell Thomas: 29 yrs old. Two years removed from knee injuries, missed 2011 and 2012 seasons, played poor last year.
Drayton Florence: 33 yrs old. Played well at the end of last season
Dunta Robinson: 32 yrs old. Familiarity. Physical. Safety?
Out of the seven I listed THREE are former falcons released by the current staff or the Dimitroff era. Houston back in 2010 traded for a 6th and 7th rounder. Robinson before the Falcons picked Trufant and Alford. And Samuel after injuries and Alfords potential. Jabari Greer and Terrell Thomas have the "prone to injury" label and with Florance you don’t know what you’re getting, his age doesn’t help.
That leaves Brandon Flowers as the best option at cornerbacks. The falcons had interest and were monitoring him before his release, the connection is there with Pioli.
Flowers was reported to have one more visit with a mystery team.
Update: Flowers signed while I was writing this.
