Yes so Murphy plays linebacker and Clowney plays defensive end... What's the difference?
Trent Murphy: The Sale Pitch
Seriously, this guy is a beast. May not be as athletic as Clowney but his motor and hustle is astounding in my opinion.
Here's some of his game film:
Murphy's very physical and has decent speed
Here's his awareness on the field:
He has ability to drop back into coverage:
and here's a nasty pick just to show his reaction time:
Clowney may be the better player over Murphy but I think it we choose Murphy, it'll be a smart decision. Murphy is listed on some mocks as a DE or a OLB and is projected to go 2-3 round. This could open up so many doors for us. Grab Matthews at 6, trade down for more picks (possibly grab Ford, Lawrence, Ealy or whoever), get ourselves a Pryor or even a Clinton-Dix, a Donald, or a Leno. My main point is depth is important this upcoming draft. As much as I would love Clowney to be on our team, he wouldn't win us a SB (plus the other 4-5 rookies). Heck, Clowney might give us 13 sacks next year. I'm sure Murphy could come close to that, with a cast of potentially Pryor, Ford, Donald, or Ealy by his side; but I'm just a little optimistic :)
Plus if we miss out on JDC this year, there's other DE prospects next year right? ;)
