Dezmen Southward why he might have been our target.

I have seen a lot of people who really dislike this pick.Only 5 safeties this year recorded a sub 4.5 time of those only one has a similar build to Southward. Deone Buchannon ran a 4.49 he is also the same height and weight. Buchannon went in the first round. I have seen many people saying we should have drafted FS Terrance Brooks and that he was more polished and a better player. Brooks had 106 tackles 4 Int and 9 passes broken up he also forced 3 fumbles in 2 season. Southward had 109 Taclkes 3 Int and 10 passes broken up also 8 TFL in the same 2 year period. He was a captain on the 7th ranked defense in the country. He also has experience at every defensive back position and while not polished yet seems to have the athletic set to be very good. When looking at raw numbers we see that the two are very comparable with slightly better ballhawking going to Brooks. Then compare those to their workout numbers and height weight and speed the advantage goes to Southward unanimously. Neither are finished products but based off athleticism and upside they have about the same floor with the higher ceiling going to Southward. Of course other factors come into play that we do not or will not know, but I see this as a good pickup for Atlanta
