1 player will not fix our defense

Lets be honest here, I see a lot people saying sign Orakpo or sign Byrd and our defense will be a lot better. Im just going to be brutally honest with you 1 or even 2 of those guys still wont make us that much better. You have to have atleast 8 solid guys and 3 great players to make a great defense and it starts up front. If you don’t have BIG guys up front to take on double teams then your Linebackers are going to suffer and so will your pass rush. Sure Peters is ok but he doesn’t command double teams. Whatever LT Osi plays against has an advantage Why do I say that? Because the LT knows he is going outside 90 percent of the time because if he uses an inside move the Guard will likely be there to help him out, therefore it takes away half of Osi’s techniques. Babs is great he wreaks havoc but he doesn’t command double teams. Babs needs a 330-340 pound guy opposite of him, what that does is free everyone else up to be one on one players. If we had that Osi would have gotten 12 sacks. Don’t believe me look at Washington’s defense last year they ran a 3-4 defense, your starters are below and the way strategically aligned the way in the base defense:

23D. Hall 64 K. Golston 96 B. Cofield 72 S. Bowen 26 J. Wilson

91 R. Kerrigan 59 L. Fletcher 56 P. Riley 98 B. Orakpo

37 R. Doughty 24 B. Rambo

First thing that should pop out to you is that that is a really stout front 7 and a lot better there ours. Orakpo is about to get a big payday but he owes a portion of it to the guys he played beside. Football is a team sport it’s not a 1 man show especially on defense. If the Falcons want to have a better defense its going to start up front and one player will not get it done. People thought Carolina was crazy for drafting a DT in the first round and a DT in the second round last year but it paid off tremendously for them. We have to have a great front 7 in order for our defense to improve.
