Jim Harbaugh: 'I know nothing about a trade with the Browns'

Say what?

For those who haven't heard about it....

Apparently PFT's Mike Florio started the ball rolling Friday afternoon when penned a whopper of a scoop......

Per multiple league sources, the Cleveland Browns nearly pulled off a trade with the 49ers for the rights to coach Jim Harbaugh.

A deal that would have sent multiple draft picks to San Francisco was in place between the teams. But Harbaugh ultimately decided not to leave the 49ers.

Or is it?

Other NFL "insiders" reiterated the story. It hit the web, Twitter and other media. I was stunned when I heard it on the radio.

Some journalists delayed putting it on their site until they could get comment from involved parties (or uninvolved party depending on how you look at it). From John Breech @ CBS Sports....

Cleveland didn't exactly deny the report in a statement, "The team conducted an extensive coaching search, and explored several options," the team said. "That search produced an outstanding head coach in Mike Pettine and we're excited about his future with the club."

The 49ers went the opposite route and denied the report to NFL.com. Two sources told the league's website that the report that Harbaugh was almost traded is 'completely false and ridiculous.'

Forty-Niners CEO Jed York also denied that there were any trade talks. So the 49ers are denying it outright, but the Browns aren't.

I'd wager the 49er's & Harbaugh would deny the trade if it in fact had ever been contemplated (i.e. Peyton Manning).

I don't know if there is or was any story here at all. Or if the story might be reporters should show restraint & verify their stories better.

I did kind of find it entertaining though.

What do you think? Comments welcome.
