Some Rough Figures

Hello my fellow Falcon fans and Good Morning. I forgot what site I was on last night but I was able to take down some numbers I'm sure most of you are curious about and would like to look over. I know I was intrigued. Here they are:

Our Falcons had a cap of about $108M as of right now. This is included and incentive kicker that rose "the little back that could's" salary from about $700-800K to about $1.5 million which he received for being in 35% of plays in 2 of his last 3 seasons. This number also includes about $8.5M that was chopped off because of TG's retirement. All in all, we have 49 players under contract for the 2014 season. The projected salary cap for 2014 is $126.3M. So you figure we are a great $18M under the cap.

I also took the liberty of included some players, whom many on The Falcoholic, would like to have cut and their corresponding 2014 salaries. And they are:

Thomas DeCoud - $4.8M, Stephen Nicholas - $4.0M, Asante Samuel - $5.125M, Osi Umenyiora - $4.75M, Kroy Beirman (no way!) - $3.5M, Garrett Reynolds - $1.5M, Jason Snelling - $1.7M, Matt Bryant - $3.3M

I included Bryant because I'm thinking, do we really need to pay a K $3.3M this year. I have no idea how long his contract is, or in what year it's currently in or how it's even structured so I may be way off but I thought it would be something to consider. The first 3 players I listed (DeCoud, Nicholas, Samuel) I think are sure fire salary cap casualties. If each of their salaries get completely wiped off the books we're looking at an extra $14M. With that said, we'll have roughly $32M to resign our free agents, restricted or other wise ( I'm pretty sure McClain is our only restricted free agent), sign free agents from other teams and our rookie pool.

As for as our own unrestricted free agents to sign, these are the players we have to evaluate and see if they are worth while to resign:

Chase Coffman - TE, Sean Locklear - OL, Jeremy Trueblood - OL, Joe Hawley - OL, Jon Babineaux - DT, Peria Jerry - DT, Corey Peters - DT, Omar Gaither - LB, Dominique Franks - CB

As you can see, there aren't many at all. And out of the list I don't think we resign half of this group. I'm not sure about you guys but I'm seeing a nice chunk of change to play with this offseason. Possibly, resign our core players to long term deals. We could sign a good 2-3 marquee, quality players. I'm pretty excited.

With that said, what do you guys think? On who or on what position(s) would you spend that money on? Thoughts? Concerns?

For a comprehensive list of unrestricted and restricted free agents you can use the following URL: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000316435/article/2014-nfl-free-agents-by-team

It breaks it down by team and by position. I found it very handy. Looking forward to everyone's response.
