Now that the season is over and we as Falcons fans are looking towards FA and the draft; let's talk CAP space. It is already being talked about and thrown around but I figured, why not start discussions on the matter? Here is where I am getting my numbers and here is what I see happening as far as what is on the roster now...
*Current CAP Number: $118,398,294
The speculative, here is who I see retiring/being cut (letting walk) and what it will save:
*Tony Gonzalez (I am sad now) - $7,000,000 (dead money - $1,750,000)
*Asante Samuel - $4,500,000 (dead money - $750,000)
*Thomas DeCoud - $3,000,000 (dead money - $1,800,000)
*Stephen Nicholas - $2,000,000 (dead money - $2,000,000)
*Osi Umenyiora (this will depend on draft and defensive scheme) - $3,500,000 (dead money - $1,250,000)
The numbers after:
*$98,398,294 after player losses (who knows who could leave via FA)
*$10,700,836 in dead money
*$109,099,130 total committed after retire/release
*$126,300,000 is what this year’s cap will more than likely be
*$17,200,870 to spend on FA and draftees
This leaves the Falcons in some pretty good shape for resigning RW and adding a impactful FA or two (hopefully on the OL and FS, leaving the draft for the DL and adding depth). I would like to know what all of my fellow Falcoholics think, please, take it away...
