First time doing this....here goes. Been a Falcons fan since I was 11 years old. Lived in ATL when I was a very young child and we lived in the same apartment building as the kicker back then (Don't recall the name, but was foreign). I remember really watching football closely when the '91 Falcons went 10-6. I bought a Deion jersey and got skinned knees in the back yard trying to emulate Andre Rison's diving catches. Enough about me. On to the post! The moment I heard that Grimes was signing with Miami, I understood the obvious logic behind drafting a CB with our top pick. It makes sense. We are in a pass happy league with a yearly cluster of QB's throwing for 4,000 yards. A lock down corner doesn't come along that often. Could Millner or Rhodes be one of those guys. Are they worth trading up for? I say no. We will gain much more from going after a DE who can rush the passer and defend the run well with that pick at 30 and I will cite the reasons why. 1. A balanced DE will impact a pass happy offense by creating pressure. How good were those Giant Superbowl corners really? JPP, Tuck, Strahan, our new play pal Osi made them much better. 2. Many play off favorites in the NFC run the read option. Will a corner have an impact as much as a DE on this offense. Not likely. A balanced DE will play the run well, shedding blocks and disrupting plays at the line of scrimmage. 3. CB is deep in this year's class. I would love Dee Millner, Rhodes, or Trufant, but I like Amerson, Banks, and Taylor almost (a very close almost) as much. I really like Bjorn Werner for our pick if he is there. He takes great angles towards runners in confined space. He sheds blocks very well and he has some great pass rushing chops as well. DE first please, Comrade! What say you fellow Dirty Birds? RISE UP!
