Matt Bosher's Value Isn't His Accuracy

Fact: Matt Bosher's legs are half human and half robot

Accuracy and leg strength. Those are the two qualities you assess in punters. Matt Bosher is pretty freaking great, but he isn't perfect. He's got incredible leg strength, but as of late, accuracy hasn't been his forte. Just 23 or 35.9 percent of his punts were inside the 20 yard line, 21st and 14th most in the league respectively. He only forced 4 touchbacks all season.

For what it's worth, he didn't punt a whole heck of a lot this season. He only punted 64 times, 30th most in the league. His lack of punting reps says something about our offense. Lack or absence of punting reps doesn't necessarily equate to poor play (the Ravens' Sam Koch punted 105 times in 2012 - 2nd most in the league), though repetitions don't hurt.

Bosher's yards/punt average is basically as good as it gets. He averages 47.2 yards/punt, which is technically the 11th best average in the league, but the league-leader (Miami's Brandon Fields) only averages 50.2 yards/punt. And that is why we say he has a bionic leg.

Discuss.
