We're entering the final round of voting for the cover of the wholly fictional Falcoholic video game. The last round saw quarterback Matt Ryan emerge victorious over one of his most consistent receiving targets, Roddy White, and Hall of Famer Deion Sanders knocked the winningest head coach in Falcons history, Mike Smith, out of the running.
In this final round, we're left with what may be a difficult decision for some, and an easy decision for others, depending on how you feel about Deion Sanders in general. Sanders was drafted fifth overall by Atlanta in 1989, and played for the Falcons until 1993, picking off 24 passes during that time. Sanders left Atlanta as a free agent in 1994, and spent the next season with the 49ers, a division rival at that point, and to say he taunted the Falcons in his first game against them in the Georgia Dome is an understatement. What he really did was get into some kind of a crazy slap fight with Andre Rison, and then he was not particularly gracious after he picked off Jeff George and returned the interception 97 yards for a touchdown.
Sanders has since suggested that, had Arthur Blank owned the Falcons in 1994, he is confident that he would have remained a Falcon. He is a Ring of Honor member, and Arthur Blank presented Sanders with his Hall of Fame ring in the Georgia Dome.
Matt Ryan is almost universally beloved by Falcons fans. He was drafted third overall by the Falcons in 2008. In his brief career, he's been under center for five consecutive winning seasons and four playoff appearances. He's coming off of a career year, tied with Peyton Manning for first in the league for completion percentage with 68.6%, throwing for 4,716 yards and 32 touchdowns. He's led 23 game-winning drives in the fourth quarter or overtime in his career, proving that his nickname, Matty Ice, is accurate. He finally locked up his first playoff win this past season, leading a last-minute drive capped off with a Matt Bryant field goal, making that game an instant classic.
Vote now, and we'll have the final results on Friday. Discuss!
