2013 NFL Free Agency: Where Karlos Dansby Might Fit In With The Falcons

The former Dolphins linebacker is still a useful player.

When the Dolphins released Karlos Dansby, it was that relatively rare moment where performance was not really a factor. The Dolphins just wanted to get younger at the position and thought Dansby was too expensive, which he was.

In this market, the Falcons are uniquely poised to take advantage of Miami's largesse. Teams have been reluctant to sink big dollars into free agents of all stripes, meaning guys who really ought to command decent offers are signing for nothing.

Dansby could be a great example of that. He'll be 32 this year, but played middle linebacker effectively for the Dolphins, covers pretty well and serves as an excellent tackler. The Falcons urgently need linebackers who can help out in coverage given the abuse they took over the middle of the field a year ago, and Dansby is reportedly interested in playing for the Falcons. The feeling may even be mutual!

This is another move that would improve the team's chances this year, but given Dansby's age, it's likely to be a stopgap fix. What do you think of it?
