Falcons Sign Tony Gonzalez To Two-Year, $14 Million Pact

Ever since we heard that Tony Gonzalez would be returning, we've been celebrating. In between the drinking, the debauchery and the ceremonial waving of #88 jerseys, we've wondered what the contract terms would be.

Wonder no more, friends. Pat Yasinskas and D. Orlando Ledbetter are reporting that Gonzo will make $7 million in 2013, $5.25 million of which will count against the cap. In total, his contract represents $7 million in guaranteed money and $14 million over two years. More or less where we expected it to be, in summary.

Great news. The cap hit is a little smaller than anticipated, giving the Falcons just a tiny bit of breathing room if they want to chase a veteran pass rusher or two in a market that's basically cratered. If Tony decides to come back for one more year, too, the Falcons will have him under contract. Another pretty shrewd move from a front office full of them.

One quick note: This does not mean he's back in 2014, too. It's just cap wizardry.

And most importantly, Tony's back! Welcome him with open arms, if you would.
