The Raven's tendered Dennis Pitta at a second round level for $2.023 million. This means that if a team wants to sign him away, they will give up their 2nd round pick if the Ravens decide not to match their contract offer and let Pitta walk.
Last year Pitta contributed as one half of a two TE set with 61 receptions, 669 yards, 11 TD's, and 29 first downs in the regular season. His counterpart, Ed Dickson, contributed 21 receptions for 225 yards, 0 TD's, and 10 first downs. Pitta's 7 TD's ranked him third on the team behind only Ray Rice (10) and Torrey Smith (8). Jacoby Jones and Anquan Boldin were a distant fifth with only 4 TD's each. In the playoffs his reception and yardage statistics dropped off just a bit due to the emergence of Boldin, but he still put up a respectable 14 receptions, 163 yards, 3 TD's, and 10 first downs.
Is Pitta worth giving up a second round pick for? I think Tony will come back, but Pitta could still be a contributor and a solid player in the future. I'm not sure what we have been mocked/projected as taking with our second round pick, but in my opinion you can't completely dismiss this hypothetical.
