Our Window for the Super Bowl

There is always turnover on the roster after a period of time. Some teams make it through, and some teams fall off of the deep end. A quick look at the contract situations tells me our immediate window is 2 seasons.

This season is a decent hit with free agents. The major names include William Moore, Garrett Reynolds, Vance Walker, Todd McClure, Will Svitek, Tony Gonzalez, and Sam Baker. I left Brent Grimes out because we didn't really have him for any of this season, so we have already figured out what the team looks like without him.

[UFA refers to unrestricted free agents which are free to sign with any team as opposed to restricted free agents whom their current team has "dibs" on resigning them.]

Next season is relatively a wash. Matt Ryan is on the list, but it is a pretty sure fact that he will be back. Other than that, there really aren't any big names other than Jonathan Babineaux. 2014 UFA's include Chase Coffman, Dominique Franks, Joe Hawley, Peria Jerry, Mike Johnson, Kerry Meier, Corey Peters, Shann Schillinger, and Michael Turner (If he makes it that far).

2015 is the big year, however. It is a ways off, though, and I don't get paid enough to look that far into the future salary situation to make an accurate assessment of the team's ability to sign players. 2015 UFA's include Jacquizz Rodgers, Cliff Matthews, Matt Bosher, Akeem Dent, Sean Weatherspoon, Jason Snelling, Kroy Biermann, Julio Jones, Matt Bryant, John Abraham, Asante Samuel, and Roddy White. There are a lot of big names on that list. If the team keeps trending in the right direction, surely some other teams will want to pluck some of those players away from us, and I doubt we are able to pay all of them in their next contract.

2015 looks like it may be somewhat balanced between FA's ready for their first big contract and FA's ready for their last contract, but I still see it as a major point of focus for this team. It is possible that the team makes it back to the big games after 2015, but I highly doubt that the team will have the same names on it that it does now.

Oh yeah, Coach Mike Smith is also in the 2015 free agent class...
